Poetry Contest

Attention aspiring poets of all ages!

The Smithsonian Associates are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for students - the 6th Annual Kite Festival Poetry Contest! All poems should describe kites and kite-flying. The sky is the limit as students put to paper their own unique interpretations. For 44 years, the Smithsonian Kite Festival has filled the skies over Washington, DC with colorful and astonishing kites. How does this inspire you? We look forward to reading your creative entries. Poems must be 150 words or less. Any form of poetry is acceptable. We will select three poems from each age group: 1st – 4th grade; 5th – 8th grade; and 9th – 12th grade.

The selected poets will read their poem onstage at this year’s Kite Festival. They also receive a special ribbon and are invited, along with their families, to a reception later that evening.

Click here to download an entry form. Once the entries are reviewed, the three selected students will be notified by telephone. Entries cannot be returned.

All entries must be received by March 8, 2010.
